Mr Footballs February 3rd dribble

This weeks Premier league action brought us thte mouth watering tie between the 2 teams in the league trying to buy a piece of history Manchester City and Chelsea. This game was on most people mouths and had been chalked in as Manchester City win and how big a win it will be. Knowing that Manchester City have been so dominant at home this year but things don’t always go by the form book and as was the case just here. Most pundits were saying “Will Chelsea park the bus and try and get Manchester City on the break, but surpinsgly enough this wasnt the case and Chelsea were superb in this game and fully deserved their 1 nil victory, which could of been much more if it wasn’t for Chelsea hitting the wood work 3 times. This result put them level on points with man city on the top of the table to make this years title one that will go to the wire.

Arsenal put themselves back on top of the table with a convincing display against Crystal Palace despite going in at half time with the scored locked at nil all it would be only a matter of time before Arsenal finally got the points they need to go back to the top of the league with a brace of goals from their young winger in Oxlade Chamberlain.

Liverpool after thrashing their rivals Everton in the derby last week travelled to a struggling West Bromwich side, but as much as Liverpool should of been on a high this game, their play wasn’t worthy of a team that is pushing for Champions League Football. It was a tired looking display by Liverpool despite taking a 1 nil half time lead, you would of thought it was going to be a another win by Liverpool but by how many, but it wasn’t the case. Liverpool even though controlling the game and not being really threatened by West Bromwich, dropped 2 points and walked away with a draw because of a horrendous mistake by their central defender Kolo Toure, who will stil be having nightmares on his across the penalty box pass to ex Everton striker Anichebe, who duly punished Toure for his mistake. It wasnt a good week for Liverpool failing to get things done on and off the pitch with them missing out on signings in the January transfer window. Now they will turn their attention to hosting Arsenal this weekend and hopefully bounce back and get them selves closer to the top 3 of the league.

David Moyes must be wondering what he has to do to get the results that Manchester United are just failing to do. This week they travelled to Stoke who at the best of times are a hard team to travel too with their hard tackling football, but also this year Mark Hughes got Stoke also playing some good football at times and they didn’t let their fans down with a battling hard fought 2 to 1 win over the champions, and leaving the red devils wailing in 7th spot and a lot of work to do to try and catch the top runners, all vying for the Champions League spots. Stoke took the lead in this game for only Manchester United get a quick reply with a goal from the returning Robin Van Persie. With the teams tied at 1 all going into the break it was the Liverpool old boy that hit a superb shot from out side the box to take all 3 points.

Everton travelled to Aston Villa and had to work hard to take all 3 points. Walking into half time with a 1 goal deficit, Everton came out looking to get back in the game and it wasnt long before they were back in it and not long after hitting the lead with a superbly struck free kick from Meireles. This result helped them close the gap between themselves and Liverpool for that coveted 4th spot.

It was the Tyne Weir derby this week between Newcastle and the struggling Sunderland. Despite Newcastle selling their main man in Cabaye this week, most would of had Newcaslte taking all 3 points in this game, but it wasnt to be. Sunderland played with no fear and shocked the home supporters with a convincing 3 nil away victory.

In other results we saw West Ham just coming off holding Chelsea 4 days before, travel to Swansea and walk away with a 2 nil result.

Cardiff hosted Norwich and despite going down to a early goal the Bluebirds fought back in the second half to walk away with a 2 to 1 result.

Tottenham travelled to Hull City and most would of had the Spurs for the win, but Hull have proved this year by some of their home results they are not easy walk overs at home and proved this by taking the lead and despite spurs getting a goal back held out to take a well deserved point.

Struggling Fulham moved to the bottom of the table with a poor display against a Southhampton side who themselves have been struggling for results but it was Southhamptons day and they walked away with a convincing 3 nil victory.
