Mr Football’s January 30th dribble

A battling defensive display by West Ham earned a crucial 0-0 draw as Chelsea’s title challenge stalled in a Stamford Bridge stalemate. Sam Allardyce’s side put their bodies on the line throughout the 90 minutes to deny the Blues a much needed 3 points and West Ham could of snatched all 3 points if former Liverpool player Andy Carrol hadn’t scuffed a glorious chance. Chelsea travel to Manchester City this weekend and it’s a huge 6 pointer for the London side.

Manchester City went a point clear on top of the table with an emphatic 5 to 1 win over Hotspurs at White Hart Lane. Manchester City took an early lead and despite the Hotspurs working their way back into the game. their hopes of getting anything out of the game were dented when Danny Rose was sent off for a challenge in the box that Manchester City duly slotted thh penalty away. From then on it was just one way traffic.

Manchester United hosted a struggling Cardiff side and walked away with all 3 points with a fine display with new signing Mata coming into the team and the welcome retun of Robin Van Persie Manchester United looked like a side that are capable of getting things back on track for a champions league spot.

The Mersey side derby between Liverpool and Everton was quoted as being one of the most important games in 30 odd years and it was Liverpool who took all 3 points with a great display of counter attacking football. Despite Everton having most of the possesions, Liverpool punished them and looked like they went forward they would score. This result took them 4 point sclear of their Mersey side rivals and kept them in a good position for Europe next year.

Arsenal dropped crucial points away to a struggling for results Southhampton side. Southhampton took an early lead but with in 7 minutes Arseanal had taken a lead only for the game to be tied back up to 2 all which was the final result.

Sunderland picked up vital points in their relegation fight with a 1 nil win over Stoke City in other games Swansea had a comprehensive 2 nil win over a struggling Fulham. Crystal Palace got a much needed 3 points with a win over Hull City and Newcaslte and Norwich fought a nil all draw with both teams ending up with 10 players on the pitch. Aston Villa and West Brom played a classic. West Brom were 2 nil up with in 20 minutes but by half time it was 3 all and in the second half Aston Villa managed to sneak a goal in to walk away with a 4 to 3 result.
